1884-1955 A cartographer of illustrated maps from the Taisho and Showa periods.
Born January 2, 1884. Studied Western painting under Takeshiro Kanokogi. Traveled throughout Japan, creating over 300 colorful, stylized tourist maps using a unique bird's-eye view technique. Known as the "Hiroshige of the Taisho era," he also illustrated many books, including "Railway Travel Guides." Died August 16, 1955, at the age of 71. Born in Kyoto.
