1902-1989 A calligrapher of the Showa era.
Born January 25, 1902 (Meiji 35). Eldest son of Nishikawa Shundō. Studied under his father, studying Chinese literature, epigraphy, and Chinese calligraphy in Beijing. Served as a professor at Keio University and Tokyo University of Education. Received the Japan Art Academy Prize in 1955 (Showa 30) for "Seven-Character Couplet in Clerical Script." Became a member of the Japan Art Academy in 1964 (Showa 44). Received the Order of Culture in 1985 (Showa 60). Died May 16, 1989 (Heisei 1), at the age of 87. Born in Tokyo. Graduated from Keio University. Courtesy name: Anshu. Pen name: Seian. Works include "Calligraphy of the Six Dynasties" and "Transformations of Calligraphy."
