Eight ancestors who were involved in the history until the teachings of Shingon Buddhism were transmitted to Japan, in other words, one of the ``eight ancestors of the tradition'' Zenmui, who is considered to be the founder of Zen in the Northern Song dynasty, received esoteric Buddhist precepts. It preaches the method of Zen and the steps of Zen practice.
In the Shingon sect, it is referred to as a material for the Sanmayakkai.
The writer, Syouken, is a son of Fujiwara no Michinori Nyudo Shinzei and a famous monk who was appointed as the head priest of Daigo-ji Temple three times.
He was considered to be the son of Emperor Goshirakawa's wet nurse, and served as head of To-ji Temple and betto of Todai-ji Temple.
This book is a key text in Shingon Esoteric Buddhism, but there are few old manuscripts from this era.
