Eight ancestors who were involved in the history until the teachings of Shingon Buddhism were transmitted to Japan, in other words, one of the ``eight ancestors of the tradition'' Zenmui, who is considered to be the founder of Zen in the Northern Song dynasty, received esoteric Buddhist precepts. The writer, Syouken, is a son of Fujiwara no Michinori Nyudo Shinzei and a famous monk who was appointed as the head priest of Daigo-ji Temple three times.
He was considered to be the son of Emperor Goshirakawa's wet nurse, and served as head of To-ji Temple and betto of Todai-ji Temple.
This book is a key text in Shingon Esoteric Buddhism, but there are few old manuscripts from this era.
