1640-1701 Kokugaku scholar of the early Edo period.
Born in Kanei 17. A monk of the Shingon sect. In the 6th year of Enpo, he was the chief priest of Myohoji Temple in Imazato, Osaka, and in his later years lived in seclusion at Enjuan in Kozu, Osaka. He studied classics under the influence of Choryu Shimokobe. At the request of Mitsukuni Tokugawa, he annotated the ``Manyoshu'' and presented the ``Manyo Daishoki''. He also advocated historical kana usage, such as in ``Waji Shoransho.'' He established a method of empirical classical research, laying the foundation for the prosperity of Kokugaku. Died on January 25, 14th Genroku. he is 62 years old. Born in Settsu Amagasaki (Hyogo Prefecture). His surname is Shimokawa. The character (bruise) is empty. His collection of poems is "Manginshu".
