【Bunei Seikan】? ‐1621 (Genna 7) An early modern Zen monk. He calls himself Fujoko. He is from the Nakao clan in Ise. His secular name is Shigetada. The year in which he entered the priesthood is unknown, but he accompanied Kiyomasa KATO as a monk during the first dispatch of troops to Korea (the Bunroku War). In 1600 (Keicho 5) he became chief priest of Tofukuji Temple and then Nanzenji Temple. In 1914, the inscription on the bell of the Great Buddha of Hokoji Temple, which was commissioned by Katsumoto Katagiri, angered Tokugawa Ieyasu and caused the bell inscription incident. After the fall of the Toyotomi clan, he was captured and imprisoned in Kyoto and then in Sunpu for several years.
