Subject ： On the day of the Rat in the New Year, people would go out into the fields, pull pine trees, and play to celebrate the birth of Chiyo. They would also hold banquets and compose waka poetry.
1844-1916
He was born in Kyoto as the son of Mitsukiyo, a branch of the Tosa family. His childhood name was Tsunemaru. He worked at the Imperial Palace Painting Office and in 1854 was promoted to Junior Sixth Rank, Upper Grade and Buzen no Suke. He subsequently became Senior Sixth Rank, Lower Grade in 1861, Tosa no Suke in 1862, and Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade and Tosa no Kami in 1869. When the construction of the Imperial Palace was completed in 1855, he was involved in the production of sliding door paintings for the Seiryoden Hall. In 1880, he was appointed to the Kyoto Prefectural Painting School, and served as its commercial council member from 1893 to 1898. In 1882, he exhibited his work at the 1st Domestic Painting Exhibition. In 1890, he painted calligraphy for the cedar doors of the Aoyama Imperial Palace in Tokyo. He worked hard to revive the Tosa school, including planning the Tosa Family Calligraphy and Painting Association in Maruyama in 1891. His grave is located in the Tosa Family Graveyard at Chion-ji Temple (Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City).
