[Ozawa Rosan] 1723-1801 Poet from the mid to late Edo period. Born in 1727. He studied under Reizei Tamemura but was excommunicated, and advocated "tadakoto uta" (poetry based on poetry) that respected the "Kokin Wakashu." He was known as one of the four great kings of Heian waka poetry along with Ban Kokei, Jien, and Suigetsu, and was on friendly terms with Ueda Akinari and Motoori Norinaga. His theory on poetry was passed on to his disciple Kagawa Kageki. He passed away on July 11, 1712, at the age of 79. Born in Osaka. His given name was Genchu. He was commonly known as Tatewaki. His other pen names were Koguo and Kankado. His works on poetry include "Furiwakegami."
