A renga master and haiku poet from the early Edo period. The founder of the Danrin school. A native of Higo. He studied renga under Satomura Shotaku, and after the downfall of his master, Lord Kato, he became the head of the renga studio at Osaka Tenmangu Shrine. In haikai, he developed the free and witty Danrin haikai style, and produced such masters as Ihara Saikaku as his disciples. He is the author and editor of "Sōin Renga Senku" (1000 Verses).
