Konoe Iehiro was a nobleman in the mid-Edo period, serving successively as chancellor, regent, and grand minister of state. He was well-versed in ceremonial rites, poetry, and tea ceremony flower arrangements, and was devoted to the calligraphy style of Fujiwara no Yukinari, working to revive it. He was one of Japan's leading cultural figures.

竹霧暁籠銜嶺月 蘋風暖送過江春 白
雖愁夕霧埋人枕 猶愛朝雲出馬鞍 江相公
川霧のふもとを籠めて立ぬれば空にぞ秋の山は見えにける 深養父
誰がための錦なればか秋霧の佐保の山辺を立ち隠すらむ 友則
竹林に立ちこめる霧が、明け方に峰に沈もうとする月を包み隠す。
水草から起こる風は暖かく、長江を訪れた春を送っていく。
山荘での暮らしは夕霧が枕を埋めてしまうかと思うほど立ち籠めるのが嫌ではあるが、
やはり朝の雲が馬の鞍のような嶺の間から立ち上がるのは愛すべきすばらしい眺めだ。
川霧が麓一帯に立ち籠めているので、空に浮かんでいるように秋の山は見えることだ。
一体、誰のための錦であると思って、秋霧は佐保山の美しい紅葉の山辺を立ち隠してしまうのだろうか。
