One of the Six Kannon Bodhisattvas, it is said to be the one who saves those in the hungry ghost realm of the six realms of existence. It is also said to save those in hell, and represents the great utility of saving all living beings without obstacles, and is said to govern the fulfillment of wishes and the tranquility of birth. The thousand arms represent the vastness of Kannon's mercy and power, which seeks to save all living beings without exception. The area where Kannon is located in the Garbha Mandala of Esoteric Buddhism is called the "Lotus Section," and within this, the Thousand-Armed Kannon is the highest-ranking being known as the "Lotus King Bodhisattva."
