1808-1877 Late Edo-Meiji period painter.
Born in 5th year of Bunka. He learned from Toyohiko Okamoto and became a central figure in the Shijo school during the Meiji Restoration. In the second year of Keio (1866), he gathered Kyoto painters and formed Jounsha, laying the foundation for the Meiji Kyoto painting world. Among his disciples were Bairei Kono and Bunkyo Nomura. Died May 11, Meiji 10. He died at the age of 70. Born in Kyoto.
