1668-1755 A Confucian scholar of the mid-Edo period. His given name was Shunryo or Seisei, his pen name was Hakuyo, and he was commonly known as Togoro. He also had the pen names Hoshu, Keishodo, and Kichinso. A senior disciple of Kinoshita Junan, he served the Tsushima domain on Kinoshita Junan's recommendation, and was active in the domain's main political affairs, dealing with Korea. He was fluent in Korean and Chinese, and was well-known both at home and abroad. He also placed great importance on honor, and debated with his fellow disciple Arai Hakuseki over the issue of the title of Shogun. His works include Kichinso Bunshu and Tawaregusa, and his works on Korea include Joseon Jianhao Enkaku Zhi, Jinlin Pingjiroku, and Jiaolin Teisei.
