Yokoi Shōnan was a thinker at the end of the Edo period. He was invited by Matsudaira Shungaku, the lord of the Echizen domain, to lead the domain's administration, and promoted the reform of the shogunate government as a political advisor to Shungaku, who assumed the position of political president of the shogunate. He joined the Meiji government as an advisor, but was assassinated.
Shōnan's ideas had an extremely large influence on the new government.
This work is impressively large, measuring over 1 meter in size, and is rare for Shōnan's large-scale work.
