A Japanese classicist, poet, and yomihon author in the mid-Edo period. Commonly known as Tosaku (Fujisaku). His pen names included Gyoen, Wayakutaro, Kanshikijin, Mucho, Kyusei, Uzakiki, and Uzakio. A native of Osaka, he was the adopted son of paper and oil merchant Ueda Mosuke. He began as a writer of ukiyo-zoshi (Japanese folklore), offering sharp and humorous satire in works like "Shodo Chomimi Sekenzaru" and "Seken Tsume Keiki." As a yomihon author, he drew on Chinese vernacular novels and methods, showcasing refined tales and character development in works like "Ugetsu Monogatari," "Masura wo Monogatari," and "Spring Rain Monogatari," placing him at the pinnacle of his talent. He also engaged in debates on Japanese classics with Motoori Norinaga, drawing on his intuitive perspective. His other works include "Kuse Monogatari," "Dan Daisho Shinroku," "Tsudurabumi," and "Seifu Sogon." His works include: "Kuse Monogatari," "Dan Daisho Shinroku," "Tsudurabumi," and "Seifu Sogon." His works range from the 19th year of the Kyoho era to the 6th year of the Bunka era (1734-1809).
