A calligrapher from the late Showa to Heisei eras.
Born on July 12, 1923. Studied under Uchida Kakuun. Received a special prize at the Nitten Exhibition in 1973, and the Prime Minister's Award in 1991. He presides over the Seiun Calligraphy Association and serves as a lecturer at Chukyo University. Received the Japan Art Academy Award in 1992 for his work "Spring." In 2006, he was named a Person of Cultural Merit. He is an executive director of the Japan Kana Calligraphy Association and a director of the Nitten Exhibition. He received the Order of Culture in 2010. He is from Okayama Prefecture. His real name is Ikuta. His works include "Kana Classroom."
