【Fujiwara Seika】A Confucian scholar from the early Edo period. His given name was Suku, and his pen name was Renfu. He was from Harima Province (Hyogo Prefecture). He was a descendant of the Shimo-Reizei family. He was the 11th-generation grandson of Fujiwara Teika. He is said to be the founder of modern Confucianism. He initially entered the Buddhist priesthood, but returned to secular life to study Neo-Confucianism, and became friends with the Korean Confucian scholar Kang Gyeon. He established his family through Confucianism. He was highly regarded by Tokugawa Ieyasu, and as a great private scholar, he produced talented students such as Matsunaga Shakugo, Hayashi Razan, and Ishikawa Jozan. He did not reject Buddhists or elders, and had a free and eclectic style of learning, with a deep interest in poetry and prose. His works include "The Japanese Teachings of the Four Books and Five Classics," "Seika Collection," and "Suntetsuroku."
【Kano Tanshin】A painter from the early to mid-Edo period. Born in 1722, he was the eldest son of Kano Tan'yu. He followed in his father's footsteps and became the head of the Kajibashi Kano family. He participated in the production of sliding screen paintings for the Imperial Palace and Edo Castle. He became a Hokan in 1715 (Shotoku 5). He died on October 4, 1716, at the age of 66. His given name was Morimasa. His other name was Tadabuchi.
