The Kamata Gendai to whom Sugita Genpaku's letter is addressed is likely to be either Kamata Akizumi or his son, Kamata Masazumi. Myozumi had studied Dutch medicine under Genpaku, while Masumi had studied surgery with Genpaku. In a letter written in his later years, Genpaku expressed his condolences after the Kamata residence and other properties were burned down. In the letter written by Hanaoka Seishu, he asks whether Juzo had arrived at Gendai's residence.
