The album is a mix of Persian and Indian sarasa, which was imported to Japan during the Edo period and called Nanban sarasa. According to documents, it is the same type as the Hikone sarasa owned by the Ii family, and feudal lords at the time enjoyed collecting rare imported dyed textiles and making sarasa albums of each.
