[Kobayashi Issa] 1763-1828. A haiku poet from the late Edo period. Born May 5, 1763. At the age of 15, he left Shinano (Nagano prefecture) for Edo and became a wanderer, studying under Nirokuan Chikua. At the age of 39, he lost his father and fought over his inheritance with his stepmother and others. Having faced adversity from an early age, he left behind many haiku poems rooted in everyday emotions mixed with slang and dialect. He passed away on November 19, 1827. He was 65 years old. His name was Nobuyuki. He was commonly known as Yataro. His other names included Haikaiji. His haiku collections include "Oraga Haru" (Our Spring).
