The entire 600 volumes of the Great Prajnaparamita Sutra were copied by the monk Kaien between 1226 and 1231. After being scattered, they have occasionally appeared, but it is extremely rare for several dozen scrolls to be gathered together like this.
The red seal "Hokke-do Sutra Repository" at the beginning and end of the volume is thought to indicate that it came from Todai-ji Temple's Hokke-do Hall (Sangatsu-do Hall).
