This is Koetsu's polite apology to a person named Sotan for reneging on his promise to greet him. The addressee, Sotan, is believed to be Sotan Kamiya, a wealthy Hakata merchant, and it is also interesting as a historical document that shows the exchange between the two. In "Sotan Nikki", Oribe Furuta is described as an eccentric person. This is a rhythmic calligraphy that makes use of Koetsu's characteristic shading of ink.
