1595-1669: A haiku poet of the early Edo period. Born in 1595, he was from Kyoto. He studied Inawashiro Kaneyo and Matsunaga Teitoku. He came into conflict with Matsue Shigeyori, and left the Teitoku school to found his own school. He died on September 30, 1669, at the age of 75. His given name was Chikaju. He was commonly known as Shoemon and Sozaemon. His other names were Shoo and Nyonyusai.
