[Hibino Gohou] Calligrapher. Born in Katsukawa-cho, Higashi-Kasugai-gun, Aichi Prefecture (currently Kasugai City). He is real name Shin. His mother died when he was young, and he was raised by his grandparents in Gifu. When he was at Ogaki Junior High School, he met Hyakuren Ohno and began learning calligraphy seriously. Gofeng was a successful kana writer, but he learned kana on his own, and at first, he mainly studied the calligraphy of Yan Zhenqing and the inscriptions of the Jin and Tang dynasties. His unique tenacity of line quality was due to his training in kanji during this period. Later, he moved to Kyoto and worked as an assistant teacher at a girls' school, passing the Bunken exam in 1927 (Showa 2) and devoting himself to writing calligraphy while working as a teacher, but after participating in the Nitten Exhibition in 1948 (Showa 23) After resigning from his teaching position, he became a leading figure in the literary world. He had many disciples and presided over the Mizuho-kai. In 1977 he became a member of the Japan Art Academy, and in 1983 he became a Person of Cultural Merit. His representative works include ``Oaza Kana Iroha Byobu'' (1963, Tokyo National Museum), and he left behind a majestic and strong kana work based on the classics.
