Ashikaga Tadayoshi Letter of Judgment
Ink on paper
December 27th, Jyōwa(1346)
Main 30,8×48,5 cm
Hanging scroll
Accessory:wood box
A letter of certiorari for mutual argument by Tadayoshi Ashikaga. The contents of the letter were likely a lawsuit by the manor lord against the Jito over issues related to cotton frugality and tax payments. It was ordered that cotton should be handled as a subsidy office, and that annual tax should be paid based on calculations. Both the written wording and signature are typical of Tadayoshi's orders, and we can see the role of Tadayoshi, who was in charge of court cases and other government affairs amid the duopoly of Takauji and Tadayoshi.
